Frequently asked questions about coffeeshops in Groningen
How many coffeeshops are there in Groningen?
There are 8 coffeeshops in Groningen in this guide. You will find them on the map and in the list above, with addresses and opening hours.
What time are the coffeeshops in Groningen open?
Opening hours differ per shop. Every coffeeshop on this page shows whether it is open right now and what time it closes today. Use the “Open now” filter to see only the shops that are open at this moment.
What do I need to bring to a coffeeshop?
Valid photo ID. Coffeeshops only sell to people aged 18 and over and will check, even if you look older. You may buy a maximum of 5 grams per day. Not every shop accepts cards; cash is the safest bet.
Can tourists go into a coffeeshop in Groningen?
That differs per municipality. On top of the national tolerance rules there is the residency criterion: coffeeshops may only sell to people who live in the Netherlands. Whether a municipality enforces it is up to that municipality — some border municipalities do, other cities do not. We do not keep track of enforcement per municipality. If in doubt, ask the shop, and bear in mind that you may be asked for Dutch ID.
